Fast Service at Kajang Passport Office

One beautiful morning I brought Mom to the Kajang Passport Office for her passport renewal. Am impressed with the fast service from submission of documents and payment to delivery of the brand new passport. 1 hour 5 minutes from payment to collection :)

Granted, we had filled in the form beforehand, having downloaded it from the Malaysian Immigration Department website (http://www.imi.gov.my/). Brought the required RM300 in cash [Text added on 2012-8-14: , her expired passport,] and 2 passport photos as per stated requirements. One thing we left out was a photocopy of Mom's identity card (IC). No problem, got that done at the shop opposite the passport office.

With completed form and all other needed stuff in hand, we joined the queue to take a number. 1039. First we got called to submit the paperwork for processing, signing, and rolling the thumbs on the thumbprint reader. Okay, done in less than 10 minute after getting the number.

Next, wait another 10 minutes for them to call our number, this time for payment. Paid the required RM300 and the officer gave us a receipt, and mentioned that it takes 1 to 2 hours for the passport to be ready. Okay. Time for a break - reading newspaper, breakfast, hanging around the Kajang Bus Station building, whatever suits you.

Half an hour after payment, saw 1006 collecting her passport. Wow. She must have arrived at 7:30 am. I said to Mom, looks like your passport will be ready pretty fast. Sure enough, at 9:35 am they called her number. Sign here, check. Thumbprint reading, check. Check the details page to make sure everything's ok. Done!

So yes, I'm happy that passport renewal has become such a fast, straightforward procedure. Another plus point: Kajang Passport Office is open on weekends. Yes, that's Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 1 pm, except public holidays. Isn't that great?

i have seen in the past that the Subang Passport Office rejected the download forms from the website and insist that we pay RM1 for the form from counter. Good to know Kajang no such issue.

Can you provide details how to get to the Kajang Passport office ?

Strange. I got my passport from Subang passport office at Terminal 3 back in November 2007 and they accepted my printed downloaded form. Could it be that the rejected forms were printed out on two separate sheets instead of both sides of one white A4 paper?

As for getting to the Kajang Passport Office, assuming you're coming from Kuala Lumpur via Cheras, take the main Cheras-Kajang Highway (E7) and follow the signs to Kajang. After Sungai Long exit comes Simpang Balak exit, and after Simpang Balak exit comes the Kajang exit.

Take the Kajang exit and turn right at the traffic light onto the old Cheras road, going under the flyover. Go straight for about 1 km, you'll pass by KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital on your left, and as you approach the Kajang town centre the Kajang Stadium will be on your right.

Now you'll find yourself at the main crossroads. Go straight ahead passing between two very old pre-war shophouses. You're now on Jalan Besar, continue straight and you'll be on Jalan Reko. A little further and you go up a flyover across the KTM Komuter railway line.

From this point onwards it's about 3.5 km to the Kajang Passport Office. Continue going straight ahead along Jalan Reko. There will be housing estates to your right, and a strip of land to your left running parallel to the railway line. You'll pass by a Petronas to your left, the Kajang KTM Komuter station to your left, go under the SILK highway, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jalan Reko to your right.

After this point you'll see a sign mentioning Kompleks Perhentian Bas Kajang. Follow the paintings on the road to make a right turn. You can't miss it, it's a big building with lots of space for buses. There's a one-way road around it, follow that road, then follow the signs to the rooftop parking space. Park on the rooftop, it's covered, and free of charge.

From the rooftop car park take the lift to Level 3. Directions to the Kajang Passport Office are well-signposted.

I hope this information helps :)
